Meh, you say? Look again. This is a very strange animal disguised as a mutt. It appears to be a common plastic Koh-I-Noor 5611 clone like other Alvin Tech DA De-Luxes, with the Alvin logo and blue rather than red barrel. And indeed it has the octagonal plastic barrel of the post-metal Koh-I-Noor 5611 but the nose and grip of the metal Koh-I-Noor 5611. And the clip is unique also, matching neither the clip as seen on the metal 5611 or the plastic type. I’ve never seen another model like this.

The Morilla was late on the scene for twist locks. Two years hence A.W. Faber would introduce their model 9400 and the rest is, as they say, history. It is quite unique however. The barrel is significantly thinner than a typical leadholder which despite its workaday detailing give the Morilla an elegant character.

This elegant model predates the “mainstreaming” of the pushbutton spring clutch by a good ten years or more. Like every other 4082 I’ve seen, the spring is too weak to sufficiently secure the lead for serious use.
