The mechanism in this pencil is novel. It combines the convenience of auto lead advance and the rigidity of exterior clutch jaws. The Schwan Pencil Co. of Germany made a leadholder with a similar mechanism, the Stabilo 8-9, though I'm unsure which brand was earlier.
