When I first acquired these colored cap examples I assumed they were modified by the owner. I'm no longer sure, the paint is applied very thinly and evenly. I can't imagine achieving these results with a spray can. I'm currently unaware of any catalog reference to colored endcaps for this first generation of 3378s, however. Actually, now that you’ve got me pinned down about it, I’m unaware of any catalog reference to any 3378 of any generation. This is just the sort of comment I need to be careful of. Three weeks from now, without a doubt, I’ll come across just such a reference and forget to update this bit here. Hell, it’s probably already happened.
Update: Here we are three weeks later and gee, I found a catalog with reference to Color Prestomatics. It’s really four weeks later, but who cares, eh? The 3378 model number isn’t explicitly mentioned, but what else could it be. Oh, and look, I put up new scans of all the 3378s with appropriately colored lead. Isn't that neat.
