purpose lead diameter mechanism composition variations production date origin	coloring 2 mm pushbutton spring clutch wooden barrel, metal mechanism, plastic pushbutton barrel color and lead (see table at right) 1950s Germany		The 8800 series was available in a large number of colors:* 8820 ochre 8821 gold 8823 olive 8831 blue 8832 indigo 8833 lime 8834 yellow 8835 tan 8836 dk. green 8837 plum 8838 dk. orange 8839 yel. ochre 8840 vermillion 8841 pale blue 8843 lt. green 8844 lemon yel. 8845 brown 8846 black 8847 violet 8848 red 8849 gray 8850 dk. red 8851 turquoise 8852 white 8853 green 8854 orange 8855 purple 8856 peach 8857 sky blue * Color names are merely descriptive and not official. These model numbers and colors were inferred from the colored pencil page of a a circa 1952 Schwan catalog. It is likely that not all of these colors were adapted for use in leadholders. The full range of colors used for leadholders is unknown to me.

Despite an identical exterior appearance, the 8800 series leaholders do not share the unusual incremental advancing mechanism of the Stabilo 8-9 drafting leadholder.
