A valuable feature of this pointer is a bevel pointing disk. The irregularly shaped hole on the top of the pointer to the left of the chrome pencil hole gives access to a spinning abrasive disk for pointing compass lead or putting a bevel point on a leadholder, a practice that was all but obsolete by the time this pointer became available in the 1980s.
